How to Find Just the Right Shade of Blush for Your Skin Tone

Many women are always struggling with how to find the right blush for their skin tone, and in all honesty, it's probably the hardest part of doing one's makeup. Next hardest would probably be matching your skin tone to a foundation that suits you without being too dark or too light. It's really the same for blush shades as well. You want that highlight and contour, and that slight pop of color that makes your cheeks liven up in a pinch - but if you go too light, it goes unnoticed, and if you go too dark, well, it all goes downhill from there.

Pale Skin:

For paler skin tones, you should go with a light rosy or light coral shade. Using an angled blush or contour brush, one would sweep the color across the apples of their cheeks to give it that natural pinkish glow.

Now say you put a bit too much on for your liking, no worries, just sweep some of your face powder over it to tone it down. Blending is key! It all depends if you want that natural look, or a more defined, dramatic effect. Just stay away from dark purple-toned blushes, and deep red blushes.

Medium Skin:

For women with a medium skin tone, medium rosy shades and deeper peach shades are perfect. You'll take your contour or blush brush and swipe the color over the apples of your cheeks.

For more of a bolder look, you could use a slightly darker shade, and apply that underneath your cheek bones, swiping it upwards towards your ear on each cheek. This will not only give you that color you're looking for, but also a slight contour effect.

Dark Skin:

Now, with dark skin tones, you want to use deeper colors, like perhaps a rich red, or more of an orange-toned shade. You want the color to show up on your skin, so if you use anything too light, your skin will appear more washed out than anything.

Using your angled contour or blush brush, you'll want to sweep it over the apples of your cheeks, giving you that slight pop of color.

In essence, it all comes down to the look you are wanting to achieve, be it a natural look, an enhanced natural look, or a more bold, dramatic look. It's always fun to experiment and try new looks!
