Makeup Artist's Top 3 Tips To Reduce Eye Puffiness

Everyone knows that big lashes make your eyes pop. However, if the skin surrounding them is too puffy the effect is lost. Though there are many products available to combat this issue, there are some little known tricks that makeup artists have been using on sets and runways for years.

Models, actors and musicians have reputations of working long hours and lots of partying. As a result, most all have rolled into the makeup chair with bags under their eyes. Cameras are not forgiving, and makeup has to look the same from take-to-take for the editing process to be effective. Time is budgeted for just the amount of time it takes to apply the makeup itself, there is no extra time for swollen or red skin.

Makeup artists know that fixes need to be quick and effective. Many use the same methods you can try at home. Here are the top 3 remedies that show results in less than 15 minutes:

  1. Cold Metal Spoons - The most recommended method is to put 2-6 metal spoons in the freezer or refrigerator until as cold as you can stand it, then place over eye sockets (rounded side down.) Switch spoons as they get warm.
  2. Green Tea Bags – Uses antioxidants and caffeine to constrict blood flow and tighten skin. For best results, steep tea in hot water for 2 minutes, cool bags, and place over eyes for 5-15 minutes.
  3. Cucumber Slices – One of the oldest home remedies and still one of the best! Soothing and relaxing, this method will not only reduce the size of your lids, but is the least drying to your skin. Place a slice over each eye for 10-15 minutes of stress relief.

Each of these techniques are simple and use familiar items that won’t break the budget. Think of it as mini spa treatment that will help you feel refreshed, beautiful, and ready to start the day!
