Romantic curls give your hair bounce and life. However, getting the right technique and using the right products makes the process a bit intimidating for those who aren't too comfortable with curling their hair. The process of obtaining romantic curls does not have to be intimidating. Here's how you can enjoy beautifully curled hair that will grab anyone's attention.
It Starts with the Shampoo
Oily, dirty, and weighed down hair will not allow you to enjoy curly bouncy curls. Wash the hair with a clarifying shampoo or a clear shampoo to remove any buildup. A clarifying shampoo will remove any traces of silicones from past conditioners and leave-in products, essentially resetting your hair's ability to hold a style. If you do not have a clarifying shampoo, then clear shampoos typically have more cleansing power than creamy, opaque shampoos. Follow the shampoo with a conditioner, making sure to only apply the conditioner to the ends of your hair.
Dry Your Hair
Use a shirt to remove excess water from the hair. A shirt will remove water, while still preserving your hair's cuticle alignment. You can air dry your hair or use a blow dryer with a round brush to smooth out any snags and to create lift at the roots. Make sure to use a mild heat protectant when using a blow dryer. Try to stay away from heavy leave-in protectants that have heavy silicones like dimethicone. Lightweight silicones like amodimethicone are more appropriate.
Use Two Different Curling Irons.
Using the same curling iron will create a large wave, while using curling irons of different sizes will allow you to create lift and defined waves. Section off the hair into four parts; the sides of your head, the back, and a very top of your head. Curling the hair, creating two to three curls in each section, making sure to switch between different curling irons.
The Secret to Long-Lasting Romantic Curls
After you curl your hair, secure each individual curl with a bobby pin. Apply a lightweight freezing spray and allow the hair to cool for about 10 to 15 minutes. The longer you leave it in, the longer-lasting the curls will be. After 15 minutes, remove the pins and finger brush your hair. For a more relaxed look, use a paddle brush to smooth out the curls.
