best highlight and contour palettes for beginners

Contouring and highlighting has been a main staple for a while for makeup artists and beginners, sculpting the face to make certain features appear sharper while camouflaging parts of our face that we aren't too happy with. While pretty much every makeup brand has a contour kit by now, we're going to look at some that are on the more affordable side that pretty much everyone can afford. These inexpensive kits are the best for beginners to practice with and once they get the hang of it, they can always upgrade to a better brand such as Kat Von D. or Anastasia of Beverly Hills.

  • NYX Highlight and Contour Palette

This one is a great, and honestly probably the best of the three we will be naming here. The pros on this one are:

  • Blends like a silky dream
  • Looks natural
  • Super pigmented
  • Multiple shades perfect for all skin tones
  • Convenient packaging, having everything you need in one palette

The only con on this is that certain shades do have some fallout as this is a powder-based contour palette. And you can't beat that for only $25.

  • e.l.f. Contour Palette

This is probably one of the cheaper of the ones picked (only $8!), and can be found at really any drugstore these days. The pros on the palette are:

  • Blends very easily
  • Soft and silky texture
  • Contains Vitamin E
  • Great pigmentation for the price
  • Very travel-friendly packaging

Only con on this one is that the shades can be super powdery at times.

  • Wet N' Wild MegaGlo Contouring Palette

Another great starter palette you can afford and can get anywhere is by Wet n' Wild, who are known for having exceptional products and prices you just can't beat ($5.49). Pros for the palette are:

  • Blends really well
  • Long-lasting formula
  • Great value for your money
  • And a great amount of product

Once again, the only con is the fact that it can be pretty powdery.

Regardless of which one you choose, it will be the perfect starter kit for anyone wanting to get into contour and highlighting. Which one will you choose?
