With the new year and a new season, it's time to take a look at what lip look you'll be trying for fresh effect. This year, there are two very strong trends that stand out, very different from each other. One might be more alluring, while the other is much better for kissing! It's probably best to have both in your arsenal of pretty tricks!
The va-va-voom, glittery lip look is intense in color, texture and shine. It's an updated version of the 1980's full force, in your face makeup with punchy color. Famous celebrity makeup artists like Pat McGrath are creating these stoplight mouths with lots of layers, steps and products, unabashedly. This is not the time to blot-blot-blot into a hint of tint. Instead, lip scrubs, primers, pencils and others are used. All lipstick textures are being used this season except the sheerest or creamiest; these don't hold their color or other product layers securely. While lipgloss was the way past lips got their glow, actual glitter and sparkles are being pressed with fingers into and on top of color. Say sayonara to subtle here!
The other hot look this year is the intensely colored, matte, non-textured lip. "Stained" doesn't quite do the trend justice. The color must be perfectly opaque and deep. Reds, plums and even offbeat colors like blue, purple and black create a prominent mouth without weight. The lip paints and super-matte lipsticks you use to achieve the look are dryer, thinner and transfer-proof. Hook 'em in and kiss 'em!
